Under the State of Michigan Freedom of Information Act an individual may request a copy of a police report which is not currently under investigation.

The requestor must provide the department with enough information to find the report in question.

The department has 5 business days to fulfill the request and an additional 10 days in unusual or extensive requests.

The department has the right to charge a reasonable retrieval and copying fee, which must be paid prior to receiving the information requested.
